Bhīma’s Rebuttal of Yudhiṣṭhira’s Renunciatory Inclination
ādadānasya atha ced rājyaṃ ye kecit paripanthinaḥ | hantavyās ta iti prājñāḥ kṣatradharmavido viduḥ ||
The verse states a hard-edged principle of kṣatriya-dharma: when rightful sovereignty is being assumed or restored, active obstructers who oppose that political act are treated as hostile enemies, and authoritative tradition deems their killing a duty within the warrior code.
Bhīma is speaking within the Shānti Parva’s discussions on governance and duty, asserting a kṣatriya standpoint: in the process of securing or reclaiming rule, those who stand as opponents or impediments are to be dealt with lethally, as taught by experts in royal/warrior dharma.
