Adhyāya 14: Śalya’s Missile-Pressure and the Pāṇḍava Convergence (शल्यस्य शरवर्षम्)
हत्वा तु समरे पार्थ: सहस्रे द्वे परंतप:
hatvā tu samare pārthaḥ sahasre dve paraṃtapaḥ
Санджая сказал: «В самой гуще сражения Партха (Арджуна), жгущий врагов, сразил две тысячи воинов.»
संजय उवाच
The verse underscores the terrible scale of war and the warrior’s role within it: heroic effectiveness (paraṃtapaḥ) is praised, yet the act—slaying thousands—also evokes the ethical gravity of violence in a dharma-conflict where duty and destruction coexist.
Sañjaya reports to Dhṛtarāṣṭra that Arjuna, fighting on the battlefield, killed two thousand opponents, highlighting Arjuna’s dominance in that phase of the Shalya Parva battle account.
