Sauptika Parva, Adhyaya 8 — Dhṛṣṭadyumna-vadha and the Camp’s Nocturnal Rout

जग्मुः स्वानेव तत्राथ कालेनैव प्रचोदिता: । कितने ही मनुष्य निद्रामें अचेत पड़े थे और घोर अन्धकारसे घिर गये थे। वे सहसा उठकर कालसे प्रेरित हो आत्मीय जनोंका ही वध करने लगे || १०० $ ।।

tyaktvā dvārāṇi ca dvāḥ-sthās tathā gulmāni gaulmīkāḥ

Санджая сказал: Бросив ворота и привратников, равно как и военные посты с их стражей, нападавшие ринулись дальше — картина хаоса ночного налёта, когда привычные защиты рушатся и насилие расползается без различения. Этот стих подчёркивает нравственный ужас ночной резни: когда страх и рок гонят людей, даже границы, призванные удерживать зло, отбрасываются прочь.
