Aśvatthāman’s Curse, Parikṣit’s Future, and the Mani’s Restitution
तस्य तद् वचन साथो: सत्यमेतद् भविष्यति । परिक्षिद् भविता होषां पुनर्वशकर: सुतः,“उस साधु ब्राह्मणका वह वचन सत्य होगा। उत्तराका पुत्र परीक्षित् ही पुनः पाण्डववंशका प्रवर्तक होगा?”
tasya tad vacanaṁ sādhoḥ satyam etad bhaviṣyati | parīkṣid bhavitā hy eṣāṁ punar vaśakaraḥ sutaḥ ||
Вайшампаяна сказал: «Слова того святого брахмана непременно окажутся истинными. Парикшит, сын (рождённый Уттарой), восстанет и вновь восстановит и поддержит род Пандавов.»
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse underscores faith in satya (truth) and the moral authority of a righteous sage’s word: even amid the devastation of war, dharma is preserved through the continuity of a rightful lineage, embodied here in Parīkṣit.
In the aftermath of the night massacre (Sauptika), Vaiśampāyana affirms that a Brahmin’s prediction will come true: Uttarā’s son Parīkṣit will be born and will re-establish the Pāṇḍava line, ensuring its survival and future order.
