Jarā’s Account and the Enthronement of Jarāsandha (जरासंधोत्पत्तिः अभिषेकश्च)
athavainaṁ nihatyājau śeṣeṇāpi samāhatāḥ | prāpnuyāma tataḥ svargaṁ jñātitrāṇaparāyaṇāḥ ||
The verse frames righteous risk in war: if one fights with the ethical aim of protecting one’s own people (jñātitrāṇa) and accepts death without self-interest, that very dharmic intention is said to lead to heavenly merit rather than harm.
Vāyudeva presents a resolve regarding Jarāsandha: either they will kill him in battle, or—even if they are killed by the remaining supporters—there is no regret, because dying while committed to safeguarding their kinsmen is portrayed as a path to svarga.
