The verse foregrounds śaraṇāgati (taking refuge): genuine supplication is framed as alignment of mind, speech, and action. It also shows how, amid war, characters seek divine sanction and protection, raising ethical questions about invoking the sacred for worldly victory.
In the Karṇa Parva context, Duryodhana addresses Śiva (Tryambaka), offering homage and asking for protection and favor for himself and his forces, presenting himself as one who has surrendered through thought, word, and deed.
