dhṛṣṭadyumnaṃ ca viṃśatyā kaikeyam cāpi pañcabhiḥ | tāñ śv etān sarvān maheṣvāsān pitā devavratas tava

The verse underscores the harsh arithmetic of war: even renowned heroes and large contingents can be overcome by a single formidable warrior. It highlights kṣatriya valor and the grave consequences of entering battle, where reputation and numbers do not guarantee safety.
Sañjaya reports to Dhṛtarāṣṭra that Devavrata (Bhīṣma), fighting for the Kauravas, has struck down Dhṛṣṭadyumna along with twenty others, and the Kaikeya prince along with five others—emphasizing Bhīṣma’s battlefield dominance.
