Adhyāya 90: Babhruvāhana’s Reception and the Commencement of Yudhiṣṭhira’s Aśvamedha
यदा दानरुचि: स्याद् वै तदा धर्मो न सीदति । अनवेक्ष्य सुतस्नेहं कलत्रस्नेहमेव च
yadā dānaruciḥ syād vai tadā dharmo na sīdati | anavekṣya sutasnehaṃ kalatrasnehameva ca ||
Когда возникает склонность к дарению, тогда дхарма не приходит в упадок. Следует давать, не оглядываясь на привязанность к детям и даже на привязанность к супругу.
श्षशुर उवाच
True giving sustains dharma: when the impulse to charity arises, one should not let familial attachments—love for children or spouse—become an excuse to withhold what ought to be given.
A father-in-law figure offers moral counsel, emphasizing that generosity is a pillar of dharma and should be practiced decisively, without being obstructed by domestic attachments.
