atrāpy udāharantīmam itihāsaṁ purātanam | adhvaryu-yati-saṁvādaṁ taṁ nibodha yaśasvini ||

Moral questions are clarified by appealing to authoritative precedent: an ancient illustrative story (itihāsa) is introduced so that the listener can grasp the ethical point through a concrete dialogue between ritual duty (Adhvaryu) and ascetic restraint (Yati).
The Brahmin speaker announces that an old traditional account will be cited as an example and invites the addressed woman (“yaśasvinī”) to listen carefully to the forthcoming dialogue between the Adhvaryu priest and the ascetic Yati.
