Marutta’s Sacrifice: Indra’s Threat, Saṃvarta’s Mantric Restraint, and Divine Reconciliation (अध्याय १०)
ततो यज्ञो ववृधे तस्य राजन् यत्र देवा: स्वयमन्नानि जह्लु: । यस्मिन् शक्रो ब्राह्मणै: पूज्यमान: सदस्यो<भूद्धरिमान् देवराज:
tato yajño vavṛdhe tasya rājan yatra devāḥ svayam annāni jahluḥ | yasmin śakro brāhmaṇaiḥ pūjyamānaḥ sadasyo 'bhūd dharimān devarājaḥ, nareśvara ||
Затем, о царь, его жертвоприношение всё более возрастало в великолепии — до того, что сами боги раздавали там пищу. В том жертвенном собрании Шакра (Индра), почитаемый брахманами и окружённый своими рыжевато-золотистыми конями, восседал как член совета, о владыка людей.
व्याय उवाच
A king’s ritual and authority become truly legitimate when grounded in dharma and conducted with proper reverence to Brahmins and sacred order; such alignment draws divine approval, symbolized here by the gods themselves serving and Indra taking a seat in the assembly.
The sacrifice being described becomes extraordinarily grand. The gods personally distribute food, and Indra—honored by the Brahmins—attends the rite as an official member of the sacrificial council, highlighting the rite’s exceptional sanctity and prestige.
