Dhṛtarāṣṭra’s Affectionate Disposition toward the Pāṇḍavas

Harsh truth, when ethically grounded, can awaken nirveda—remorse and disenchantment that breaks delusion. The verse highlights moral accountability: a ruler’s partiality and attachment can culminate in catastrophe, and honest speech can force recognition of that responsibility.
Vaiśampāyana narrates that Dhṛtarāṣṭra hears Bhīma’s cutting words. The speech is emotionally painful—like thorns in the heart—and it triggers Dhṛtarāṣṭra’s profound regret and dispassion, setting the tone for withdrawal and reflection in the Āśramavāsika context.
