यस्तु कृच्छुमनुप्राप्तं विचेता नावबुध्यते । स कृच्छुकाले व्यथितो न श्रेयो विन्दते महत्,जो मूढ़चित्त जीव आनेवाले संकटको नहीं जानता, वह संकटके समय व्यथित होनेके कारण महान् कल्याणसे वंचित रह जाता है
yastu kṛcchram anuprāptaṁ vicetā nāvabudhyate | sa kṛcchrakāle vyathito na śreyo vindate mahat ||
Но тот, кто, будучи способен к размышлению, не распознаёт надвигающуюся беду, — когда тягота приходит, он смятён и терзаем; и потому лишается возможности обрести великое благо и истинное добро.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
One should recognize and prepare for impending difficulties. Failure to perceive an approaching crisis leads to agitation when it arrives, and that disturbed state prevents one from securing true welfare (śreyaḥ).
Vaiśampāyana continues a didactic reflection within the Adi Parva, stating a general moral principle: lack of discernment about looming trouble results in distress at the critical moment and the loss of a greater good.
