Adhyāya 196: Droṇa’s Conciliatory Counsel and Karṇa’s Suspicion of Counsel (मन्त्र-नय-विवादः)
स्वर्गश्री: पाण्डवार्थ तु समुत्पन्ना महामखे । सेह तप्त्वा तपो घोर दुहितृत्वं तवागता,यह स्वर्गलोककी लक्ष्मी है, जो पाण्डवोंके लिये तुम्हारे महायज्ञमें प्रकट हुई है। इसने अत्यन्त घोर तपस्या करके इस जन्ममें तुम्हारी पुत्री होनेका सौभाग्य प्राप्त किया है
svargaśrīḥ pāṇḍavārthaṃ tu samutpannā mahāmakhe | seh tapttvā tapo ghoraṃ duhitṛtvaṃ tavāgatā ||
Вьяса сказал: «Это — Сваргашри (Svargaśrī), само небесное великолепие и благодать, явившаяся в твоём великом жертвоприношении ради Пандавов. Совершив чрезвычайно суровые подвиги аскезы, она обрела в этом рождении благословенную долю — стать твоей дочерью».
व्यास उवाच
The verse links prosperity and auspicious destiny (Śrī) with dharmic effort: extraordinary tapas and a righteous sacrificial context are portrayed as causes for divine grace to manifest for the welfare of others (here, the Pāṇḍavas).
Vyāsa identifies a newly manifested figure as Svargaśrī, explaining that she has appeared during a great sacrifice specifically to aid the Pāṇḍavas, and that her becoming the listener’s daughter is the fruit of her intense austerities.
