अयमस्मानपाहाय दु:खे चाधाय शाश्चते | कृत्वा चास्माननाथांश्व क्व यास्यति नराधिप:,वे कहते जाते थे--'हाय! ये महाराज हमलोगोंको छोड़कर, हमें सदाके लिये भारी दुःखमें डालकर और हम सबको अनाथ करके कहाँ जा रहे हैं!
ayam asmān apāhāya duḥkhe cādhāya śāśvate | kṛtvā cāsmān anāthāṁś ca kva yāsyati narādhipaḥ ||
И они говорили на ходу: «Увы! Оставив нас, ввергнув в вечную скорбь и сделав всех нас сиротами без защитника, куда уходит царь?»
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights the dharmic role of a king as protector: when the ruler departs, dependents feel 'anātha' (unprotected). It underscores ethical responsibility in leadership and the social vulnerability created by the loss of rightful guardianship.
