The verse highlights the ethical weight of lineage and responsibility: the speaker’s deep concern arises from having a single heir in a great family, implying the duty to protect, guide, and preserve the continuity and honor of the kula.
Vaiśaṃpāyana introduces a personal confession of worry and addresses the listener affectionately as ‘vatsa,’ explaining that the cause of his concern is the listener’s unique position as the only offspring within an illustrious lineage.
