Nārāyaṇa’s Impartiality, Absorption in Kṛṣṇa, and the Jaya–Vijaya Descent

Prelude to Prahlāda’s History

kāmād dveṣād bhayāt snehād yathā bhaktyeśvare manaḥ āveśya tad-aghaṁ hitvā bahavas tad-gatiṁ gatāḥ

FAQs

This verse states that when the mind becomes absorbed in the Supreme Lord—whether through devotion or even intense emotions like fear, hatred, lust, or affection—one can become freed from sin and attain the Lord’s destination.

In explaining the power of viṣṇu-smaraṇa (absorption in the Lord), Śukadeva emphasizes that the decisive factor is deep mental fixation on the Supreme; such absorption purifies and can lead to the same ultimate goal, though devotion is the intended and pure path.

Train the mind toward God through daily hearing and chanting (śravaṇa-kīrtana), and redirect strong emotions into remembrance—turn anxiety into prayer, attachment into loving service, and distraction into focused devotional practice.
