Ambarīṣa’s Prayers to Sudarśana and the Deliverance of Durvāsā
so ’śitvādṛtam ānītam ātithyaṁ sārva-kāmikam tṛptātmā nṛpatiṁ prāha bhujyatām iti sādaram
This verse shows that honoring a guest—especially a sage—with respectful hospitality is a vital part of dharma, and that such proper reception brings auspiciousness and satisfaction to all involved.
After being fed and honored, Durvāsā indicated that the king could proceed with his own meal—important in this narrative because Ambarīṣa was observing a vow and needed to eat at the proper time while still honoring his guest.
Practice respectful hospitality—welcome guests, offer what you can with sincerity, and keep your duties and spiritual commitments balanced without neglecting either.
