Vena–Pṛthu Episode and the Milking of Earth
Vasudhā (Earth personified), as narrated by Sage Parāśara to Maitreya
Concept: Even cosmic powers submit to rightful authority when it is aligned with protection and order, showing Dharma as a binding principle for all.
Vedantic Theme: Dharma
Application: When confronting disorder, combine firmness with openness to dialogue; seek protective outcomes rather than vengeance.
Vishishtadvaita: The world (Bhū) is a dependent reality that seeks refuge under divinely ordered governance; dependence (śeṣatva) is implicit in ‘paritrāṇa’ (seeking protection).
Dharma Exemplar: Kṣātra-tejas tempered by responsibility
Key Kings: Pṛthu
Bhakti Type: dasya
Lakshmi Presence: Bhumi
It signifies the world’s disorder being confronted by righteous authority—Earth submits when sovereignty is exercised to restore dharma and protect beings.
Through Pṛthu, Parāśara presents kingship as a dharmic mandate: the ruler’s power compels chaos to yield, but its purpose is protection and the re-ordering of society and nature.
Pṛthu functions as a paradigmatic, divinely sanctioned sovereign—reflecting Vishnu’s supreme governance where power is ultimately for preservation, stability, and the welfare of the world.
