Śivarātri-vrata Udyāpana-vidhi
Completion Rite for the Śivarātri Observance
Suta Goswami (traditional Purāṇic narrator concluding the chapter to the sages at Naimiṣāraṇya)
Significance: Colophon verse; marks textual closure of the Śivarātri-vrata udyāpana chapter rather than prescribing a specific tīrtha or liṅga.
This is a colophon marking the formal completion of the chapter, emphasizing that Śivarātri-vrata is not only observed but also properly concluded (udyāpana), reflecting disciplined bhakti offered to Lord Śiva as Pati (the liberating Lord).
By naming the chapter as Śivarātri-vrata-udyāpana within the Koṭirudra Saṃhitā, it situates the practice within the Purāṇic framework of Saguna Śiva worship—commonly centered on liṅga-pūjā, night-long devotion, and ritual completion as an offering to Śiva.
The verse signals the prescribed completion of the Śivarātri observance—i.e., concluding the vow with proper udyāpana rites (such as final worship, charity/feeding, and reaffirmation of devotion), aligning vrata-discipline with Śiva-bhakti.
