The Greatness of the Ghuśmeśa Jyotirlinga
Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Dakṣiṇāmūrti
Type: stotra
Role: teaching
It teaches that when one is firmly established in tattva-jñāna (knowledge of Reality), suffering loses its power; liberation and purification arise from awakening to the true Self—understood in Shaiva Siddhanta as realized through Shiva’s grace and right knowledge.
Linga worship disciplines the mind and purifies the devotee, leading from Saguna devotion (form-based worship) toward insight into Shiva-tattva; this verse highlights the culmination—inner purification and freedom from sorrow through realized knowledge.
Regular Shiva-upāsanā supporting tattva-jñāna—japa of the Panchakshara (Om Namaḥ Śivāya), meditation on Shiva as the inner witness, and purificatory observances such as Tripuṇḍra (bhasma) and Rudrāksha as aids to steadiness and clarity.
