परिघान् पट्टसांश्चैवशरखङ्गपरश्वधान् ।शरीरान्तकरान् सर्वेचिक्षिपुर्वानरान् प्रति ।।।।वानराश्चद्रुमान्शैलान्राक्षसान्प्रतिचिक्षिपुः ।
parighān paṭṭasāṃś caiva śara-khaṅga-paraśvadhān |
śarīrāntakarān sarve cikṣipur vānarān prati |
vānarāś ca drumān śailān rākṣasān prati cikṣipuḥ ||
Todos arremessaram barras de ferro, pesadas clavas, flechas, espadas e machados—armas capazes de ceifar a vida—contra os vānaras; e os vānaras, por sua vez, lançaram árvores e rochedos contra os rākṣasas.
The verse frames the harsh reality of war: force meets force. In the Ramayana’s ethical arc, violence is depicted as justified only when aligned with protecting Dharma.
