Ravana’s Threats and Sita’s Dharma-Centered Reply
Ravana, the lord of demons, said these words in reply to Vaidehi who was overcome with anger and exitement.
The verse signals how krodha (anger) clouds discernment, a classic dharmic warning: agitation leads rulers to abandon righteousness and speak or act unjustly.
The narrator frames Rāvaṇa’s emotional state as he continues his coercive dialogue with Sītā.
Implicitly, the virtue of self-control (dama/kṣamā) is highlighted by its absence in Rāvaṇa; the epic treats loss of restraint as a cause of downfall.
