Autumn’s Onset: Rama’s Lament and Lakshmana Sent to Sugriva
अनाथो हृतराज्योऽयं रावणेन च धर्षितः।दीनो दूरगृहः कामी मां चैव शरणं गतः4.30.67।।इत्येतैः कारणैस्सौम्य सुग्रीवस्य दुरात्मनः।अहं वानरराजस्य परिभूतः परन्तप4.30.68।।
sa kālaṃ parisaṅkhyāya sītāyāḥ parimārgaṇe | kṛtārthaḥ samayaṃ kṛtvā durmatir nāvabudhyate ||
Esse de mente perversa, após contar o tempo para a busca de Sītā e alcançar seus próprios fins, não compreende que chegou —e se tornou urgente— o prazo fixado por sua promessa.
'O gentle one although I am a vanquisher of foes, this evilminded king of monkeys is slighting me because I am away from home, I have lost my kingdom, I am outraged by Ravana, I am miserable and lovesick and I have sought his help.
Satya as lived ethics: a promise (samaya) binds especially when time is specified; benefiting from another and then neglecting one’s pledge is adharma.
Rāma notes that Sugrīva, now secure in his kingship, is letting the agreed deadline for Sītā’s search slip by.
Rāma’s insistence on integrity in alliances—duty must continue after one’s personal goals are met.
