Vali’s Funeral Rites and the Consolation of the Bereaved
एषा वै नियतिश्शेष्ठा यां गतो हरियूथपः।तदलं परितापेन प्राप्तकालमुपास्यताम्4.25.11।।
eṣā vai niyatiḥ śreṣṭhā yāṃ gato hari-yūthapaḥ |
tad alaṃ paritāpena prāpta-kālam upāsyatām || 4.25.11 ||
Este é, de fato, o mais nobre curso do destino a que chegou o chefe dos vānara; portanto, basta de aflição — cuidai agora do que o tempo requer.
'The state attained by the chief of monkeys is an excellent one.Therefore there is no need to regret. Attend to your duties (relating to rites)'
Dharma includes timely action: after unavoidable loss, one must restrain sorrow and perform the duties demanded by the moment (especially rites owed to the dead).
Rāma urges the mourners to move from lamentation to the necessary funeral responsibilities for Vāli.
Practical wisdom and self-mastery (śama): channeling emotion into rightful action.
