दृष्टवैव चैनं तु विचारयाम्यहं गन्धर्वराजो यदि वा पुरंदर: । जानीत को<यं मम दर्शने स्थितो यदीप्सितं तल्लभतां च मा चिरम्,“इसे देखकर ही मैं सोचने लगा हूँ कि यह गन्धर्वराज हैं या देवराज इन्द्र? मेरी दृष्टिके सामने खड़ा हुआ यह युवक कौन है, इसका पता लगाओ और यह जो कुछ पाना चाहता हो, वह सब इसे मिल जाना चाहिये; इसमें विलम्ब नहीं होना चाहिये”
dṛṣṭvaiva cainaṃ tu vicārayāmy ahaṃ gandharvarājo yadi vā purandaraḥ | jānīta ko 'yaṃ mama darśane sthito yad īpsitaṃ tal labhatāṃ ca mā ciram ||
“Ao vê-lo, comecei a refletir de imediato: ‘Será ele o rei dos Gandharvas, ou o próprio Purandara (Indra)?’ Descobri quem é este jovem que está diante dos meus olhos. E tudo o que ele desejar, que o obtenha—sem demora.”
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights discernment joined with prompt benevolence: when confronted with an extraordinary person, one should investigate respectfully, yet ensure that rightful wishes are fulfilled without needless delay—an ethic of honoring merit and acting swiftly in generosity.
The speaker describes someone seeing a remarkable youth and immediately suspecting he may be a celestial being—either the Gandharva-king or Indra. He orders others to identify the youth and to grant him whatever he desires at once.
