Uttarā-Pratigrahaṇa and Abhimanyu–Uttarā Vivāha

Virāṭa-parva, Adhyāya 67

Educational Q&A

Even in victory, restraint and mercy can be dharmic: Arjuna demonstrates controlled power—routing the enemy yet sparing lives—showing that strength need not become cruelty.

After scattering the Kuru forces, Arjuna returns toward Virāṭa’s city without being pursued. Some Kaurava soldiers who had hidden in the forest emerge frightened, exhausted, and in supplication, standing with loosened hair and folded hands before him.
