Chapter 58: Arjuna’s Deployment of the Indra-Weapon
अहं तु प्रद्वते पूर्व प्रहरिष्पामि तेडनघ । इति मे वर्तते बुद्धिस्तद् भवान् कर्तुमहति
ahaṃ tu pradvatē pūrvaṃ prahariṣyāmi te 'nagha | iti me vartate buddhis tad bhavān kartum arhati ||
Vaiśampāyana disse: “Mas eu só te atacarei depois que tu atacares primeiro, ó irrepreensível. Tal é a resolução firme em minha mente; portanto, que tua honra faça o que é devido—fere-me primeiro.” A afirmação enquadra o combate não como agressão cega, mas como uma contenção ética autoimposta: o orador recusa iniciar a violência contra um adversário venerado, mesmo numa batalha inevitável.
