Droṇa–Pārtha Strategic Engagement
वैशम्पायनजी कहते हैं--जनमेजय! इस प्रकार कौरव-सेनाकी व्यूह-रचना हो जानेपर अर्जुन अपने रथकी घ॒र्घराहटसे सम्पूर्ण दिशाओंको गुँजारे हुए शीघ्र ही निकट आ पहुँचे। सैनिकोंने उनकी ध्वजाके अग्रभागको देखा, उनके रथसे आती हुई भयंकर आवाज भी सुनी और खींचे जाते हुए गाण्डीवकी जोर-जोरसे होनेवाली टंकारध्वनि भी उनके कानोंमें पड़ी ।। ततस्तु सर्वमालोक्य द्रोणो वचनमतब्रवीत् । महारथमनुप्राप्तं दृष्टया गाण्डीवधन्विनम्,तब सब कुछ देखकर गाण्डीव धनुष धारण करनेवाले महारथी अर्जुनको निकट आया जानकर आचार्य द्रोण यह वचन बोले
tatas tu sarvam ālokya droṇo vacanam abravīt | mahāratham anuprāptaṁ dṛṣṭvā gāṇḍīvadhanvinam ||
Vaiśampāyana disse: Ó Janamejaya! Assim, depois de disposta a formação (vyūha) do exército Kaurava, Arjuna aproximou-se rapidamente, fazendo todas as direções ecoarem com o estrondo de seu carro. Os soldados viram a ponta de seu estandarte, ouviram o som terrível vindo do carro e também lhes chegou o forte repique do Gāṇḍīva ao ser retesado. Então, após observar tudo, Droṇa falou; vendo que o grande guerreiro de carro, Arjuna, portador do arco Gāṇḍīva, havia chegado perto, o mestre proferiu estas palavras.
