Droṇa–Pārtha Strategic Engagement
(वैशग्पायन उवाच तमदूरमुपायान्तं दृष्टवा पाण्डवमर्जुनम् | नारय: प्रेक्षितुं शेकुस्तपन्तं हि यथा रविम् ।। सतं दृष्टवा रथानीकं पार्थ: सारथिमब्रवीत् ।) वैशम्पायनजी कहते हैं--जनमेजय! तपते हुए सूर्यकी भाँति देदीप्यमान पाण्डुनन्दन अर्जुनको समीप आते देख शत्रु उनकी ओर दृष्टिपात न कर सके। रथियोंकी सेनाको सामने देख कुन्तीकुमार अर्जुनने सारथिसे कहा। अजुन उवाच इषुपाते च सेनाया हयान् संयच्छ सारथे । यावत् समीक्षे सैन्येडस्मिन् क्वासौ कुरुकुलाधम:
arjuna uvāca |
iṣupāte ca senāyā hayān saṁyaccha sārathe |
yāvat samīkṣe sainye 'smin kvāsau kurukulādhamaḥ ||
Vaiśampāyana disse: “Ó Janamejaya! Ao verem Arjuna, filho de Pāṇḍu, aproximar-se, fulgurante como o sol ardente, os inimigos não conseguiram fitá-lo. Vendo diante de si o exército dos guerreiros de carro, Arjuna, filho de Kuntī, falou ao seu cocheiro. Arjuna disse: ‘Cocheiro, refreia aqui os cavalos, ao alcance das flechas do exército, para que eu examine esta hoste e veja onde está aquele opróbrio da linhagem dos Kurus.’”
