उत्तरो बृहन्नडां सारथ्याय नियुङ्क्ते — Uttara Appoints Bṛhannadā as Charioteer
राजपुत्र हितप्रेप्सु: क्षिप्रं निर्याहि च स्वयम् । त्वां हि मत्स्यो महीपाल: शून्यपालमिहाकरोत्,*राजपुत्र! आप इस राज्यके हितैषी हैं, अतः स्वयं ही युद्धके लिये तैयार होकर निकलिये। मत्स्यनरेशने अपनी अनुपस्थितिमें आपको ही यहाँका रक्षक नियुक्त किया है
rājaputra hitaprepsuḥ kṣipraṁ niryāhi ca svayam | tvāṁ hi matsyo mahīpālaḥ śūnyapālam ihākarot ||
Disse Vaiśaṃpāyana: “Ó príncipe, já que buscas o bem do reino, parte imediatamente—em pessoa—e prepara-te para a batalha. Pois o rei Matsya, senhor da terra, nomeou-te aqui como guardião na sua ausência.”
वैशमग्पायन उवाच
A prince’s dharma is prompt, personal responsibility for the kingdom’s welfare: when entrusted with authority, he must act swiftly to protect the realm, especially in the king’s absence.
The narrator reports an instruction to a prince to depart immediately for battle preparations, emphasizing that King Matsya has formally appointed him as the protector of the kingdom while the king is away.
