Virāṭa-parva Adhyāya 33 — Kuru Cattle-Raid and Matsya Mobilization (भूमिंजय-प्रेरणा)
स्थिता: समक्ष ते सर्वे त्वथ भीमो5भ्यभाषत,जब वे सब राजाके सामने आकर खड़े हुए, तब भीमसेन बोले--'यह पापाचारी सुशर्मा मेरे हाथसे छूटकर जीवित रहनेयोग्य तो नहीं है; परंतु मैं कर ही क्या सकता हूँ? हमारे महाराज सदाके दयालु हैं!
sthitāḥ samakṣa te sarve tv atha bhīmo 'bhyabhāṣata |
Quando todos se puseram diante dele, Bhīma falou: “Esse pecador, Suśarmā, não merece escapar das minhas mãos e continuar vivo; mas que posso eu fazer? Nosso rei é sempre compassivo.”
वैशम्पायन उवाच
Even in a justified conflict, personal wrath is checked by dharma and the king’s compassionate policy; Bhīma’s impulse to punish is restrained by loyalty to righteous governance.
After the opponents are brought and stand before the king, Bhīma addresses the situation, expressing that Suśarmā deserves death for his wrongdoing, but acknowledges he cannot act freely because their king is consistently merciful.
