Kīcaka-vadha-pratisaṃjñā: Rumor in Matsya and the Kaurava Scouts’ Report (कीचकवध-प्रतिसंज्ञा)
The verse highlights the limits of human understanding: another person’s inner life cannot be fully grasped from the outside. Ethically, it urges humility in judgment and encourages compassion, since unseen pain may lie behind words and actions.
In Vaiśampāyana’s narration, a character explains why they feel misunderstood: because complete access to another’s heart is impossible, the listener cannot truly perceive the speaker’s inner distress.
