Shloka 6

युधिष्ठिरस्य अर्जुनप्रेषण-युक्तिवर्णनम् | Yudhiṣṭhira’s Rationale for Sending Arjuna and Request to Dhaumya

वहाँ ब्रह्मा आदि देवता, तपोधन ऋषि, सिद्ध, चारण, गन्धर्व, किन्नर और बड़े-बड़े नाग निवास करते हैं ।। तद्‌ वन प्रविशन्नेव सर्वपापै: प्रमुच्यते । ततश्चापि सरिच्छेष्ठा नदीनामुत्तमा नदी,उस वनमें प्रवेश करते ही मानव सब पापोंसे मुक्त हो जाता है। उससे आगे सरिताओंमें श्रेष्ठ और नदियोंमें उत्तम नदी परम पुण्यमयी सरस्वतीदेवीका उदगम स्थान है, जहाँ वे प्लक्ष (पकड़ी) नामक वृक्षकी जड़से टपक रही हैं। राजन! वहाँ बाँबीसे निकले हुए जलमें स्नान करना चाहिये

tatra brahmādayo devāḥ tapodhanā ṛṣayaḥ siddhāś cāraṇā gandharvāḥ kinnarāś ca mahānāgāś ca nivasanti | tad vanaṃ praviśann eva sarvapāpaiḥ pramucyate | tataś cāpi saricchreṣṭhā nadīnām uttamā nadī paramapuṇyā sarasvatīdevyā udgamasthānam, yatra sā plakṣanāmnaḥ vṛkṣasya mūlāt sravantī | rājan! tatra valmīkād utthitena jalena snānaṃ kartavyam |

Ali habitam Brahmā e os demais deuses, os sábios ascetas ricos em austeridades, os Siddhas, os Cāraṇas, os Gandharvas, os Kinnaras e os poderosos Nāgas. Apenas ao entrar naquela floresta, o homem se liberta de todos os pecados. Além dela encontra-se a mais excelente das correntes, a melhor entre os rios: a fonte supremamente santa da deusa Sarasvatī, onde se a vê gotejar a partir da raiz de uma árvore chamada Plakṣa. Ó Rei, deve-se banhar ali na água que brota de um formigueiro, pois é um lugar de purificação extraordinária.
