The verse teaches that tīrtha-bathing (snāna) is a dharmic act believed to yield specific spiritual results: immense merit comparable to major charity (a thousand cow-gifts) and even attainment of a higher realm (Nāgaloka).
In the context of the Vana Parva’s tīrtha-yātrā descriptions, the speaker Ghūlastya enumerates the fruits (phala) of bathing at particular sacred sites—Śivoddheda and Nāgoddheda—thereby guiding the listener on pilgrimage benefits.
