Nala’s Victory over Puṣkara in the Dice-Game
nala uvāca | na me 'parādhaṁ kṛtavāṁs tvaṁ svalpam api pārthiva | kṛte 'pi ca na me kopaḥ | kṣantavyaṁ hi mayā tava ||
The verse upholds kṣamā (forgiveness) and akrodha (freedom from anger) as ethical strengths: even when wronged, one should restrain wrath and choose pardon, especially in relationships involving duty and respect.
Nala addresses a king respectfully, assuring him that no offense has been taken; even if any fault occurred, Nala bears no anger and declares it his duty to forgive.
