अध्याय ३० — क्रोधदोषाः क्षमाप्रशंसा च
Defects of Anger and the Praise of Forbearance
भुज्जते रुक्मपात्रीभियरयत्राहं परिचारिका | आरण्यकेभ्यो लौहानि भाजनानि प्रयच्छसि । नादेयं ब्राह्मणेभ्यस्ते गृहे किंचन विद्यते,पार्थ! आपने ब्राह्मणोंकी समस्त कामनाएँ पूरी करके सदा उन्हें तृप्त किया है। भारत! आपके यहाँ मोक्षाभिलाषी संन्यासी तथा गृहस्थ ब्राह्मण सोनेके पात्रोंमें भोजन करते थे। जहाँ स्वयं मैं अपने हाथों उनकी सेवा-टहल करती थी। वानप्रस्थोंको भी आप सोनेके पात्र दिया करते थे। आपके घरमें कोई ऐसी वस्तु नहीं थी, जो ब्राह्मणोंके लिये अदेय हो
yudhiṣṭhira uvāca | bhujjate rukmapātrībhir yatrahaṁ paricārikā | āraṇyakebhyo lauhāni bhājanāni prayacchasi | nādeyaṁ brāhmaṇebhyas te gṛhe kiṁcana vidyate, pārtha |
Yudhiṣṭhira disse: “Ó Pārtha, em tua casa não havia nada que pudesse ser negado aos brāhmaṇas. Ascetas que buscam a libertação e brāhmaṇas chefes de família comiam em vasos de ouro, e eu mesma os servia com minhas próprias mãos. Até aos eremitas que vivem na floresta tu fornecias utensílios de ferro. Assim cumprias cada desejo dos brāhmaṇas e os mantinhas continuamente satisfeitos.”
युधिछिर उवाच
The verse upholds dāna and hospitality as royal dharma: a righteous household should treat brāhmaṇas and ascetics as worthy recipients, giving without miserliness and according to their needs—luxury for honored guests and practical support (like iron utensils) for forest-dwellers.
Yudhiṣṭhira addresses Arjuna (Pārtha), recalling the former prosperity and generosity of their household: brāhmaṇas ate from golden vessels, Yudhiṣṭhira personally served them, and even forest ascetics received suitable utensils—emphasizing that nothing in their home was ever withheld from brāhmaṇas.
