Draupadī’s Application
तस्यात्मानं संत्यजतो लोका नश्यन्त्यनात्मन: । तस्माद् द्रौपद्यशक्तस्य मन्योर्नियमनं स्मृतम्,अपने चित्तको वशमें न रखनेके कारण क्रोधवश देहत्याग करनेवाले उस मनुष्यके लोक और परलोक दोनों नष्ट हो जाते हैं। अतः द्रुपदकुमारी! असमर्थके लिये अपने क्रोधको रोकना ही अच्छा माना गया है
tasya ātmānaṃ saṃtyajato lokā naśyanty anātmanaḥ | tasmād draupady aśaktasya manyor niyamanaṃ smṛtam ||
Yudhiṣṭhira disse: “Para aquele que, sem domínio de si, abandona a vida sob o ímpeto da ira, arruínam-se tanto o bem-estar neste mundo quanto as perspectivas no outro. Portanto, ó Draupadī, para quem não é forte o bastante para suportar e agir retamente, considera-se melhor refrear a ira.”
युधिछिर उवाच
Anger that overwhelms self-mastery leads to ruin in both worldly life and the next; therefore, restraining anger is upheld as the wiser course, especially for one not able to endure and respond rightly.
Yudhiṣṭhira addresses Draupadī, advising her ethically: rather than letting anger drive destructive action (even self-destruction), one should practice restraint and self-governance.
