Sāvitrī’s Report and Nārada’s Prognosis
The verse frames greed (dhanalobha) as a root cause of adharma that can escalate into the gravest sins—murder and the destruction of one’s lineage. It emphasizes that ethical collapse is not merely personal; it damages the social and familial order (kula) and brings lasting disgrace.
Mārkaṇḍeya recounts a scene in which a righteous man confronts a woman for a heinous act: out of greed for wealth she has killed her husband and thereby ruined the family line. The speech is a direct moral rebuke, highlighting the cruelty and its catastrophic consequences.
