Mārkaṇḍeya’s Consolation to the King: Exempla of Rāma and the Efficacy of Allies (मार्कण्डेयाश्वासनम्)
तथा भविष्यतीत्युक्त्वा विभीषणमुवाच ह । वर वृष्णीष्व पुत्र त्वं प्रीतोडस्मीति पुन: पुन:,उसे 'ऐसा ही होगा” यों कहकर ब्रह्माजी विभीषणके पास गये और इस प्रकार बोले --<बेटा! मैं तुमपर बहुत प्रसन्न हूँ, अतः तुम भी वर माँगो।' ब्रह्माजीने यह बात बार-बार दुहरायी
tathā bhaviṣyatīty uktvā vibhīṣaṇam uvāca ha | varaṃ vṛṇīṣva putra tvaṃ prīto ’smi iti punaḥ punaḥ ||
Tendo dito: «Assim será», Brahmā aproximou-se de Vibhīṣaṇa e falou-lhe: «Meu filho, estou grandemente satisfeito contigo; portanto escolhe uma dádiva». Brahmā repetiu essa garantia vez após vez, ressaltando que a firmeza no dharma e a intenção sincera são dignas do favor divino.
रावण उवाच
The verse highlights that divine approval is linked to moral steadfastness: when one acts with integrity, higher powers affirm and encourage that path, even offering support in the form of a boon.
Brahmā, after confirming that events will unfold as stated, approaches Vibhīṣaṇa and repeatedly tells him that he is pleased, inviting him to ask for a boon.
