रावण–मारीचसंवादः तथा मृगप्रलोभनपूर्वकं सीताहरणोपक्रमः
Rāvaṇa–Mārīca Dialogue and the Decoy-Deer Prelude to Sītā’s Abduction
उपरिष्टादसौ लोको यो<यं स्वरिति संज्ञित: । ऊर्ध्वग: सत्पथ: शश्वद् देवयानचरो मुने,मुने! जिसे स्वर्लोक कहते हैं, वह यहाँसे बहुत ऊपर है। वहाँ पहुँचनेके लिये ऊपरको जाया जाता है, इसलिये उसका एक नाम ऊर्ध्वग भी है। वहाँ जानेके लिये जो मार्ग है, वह बहुत उत्तम है। वहाँके लोग सदा विमानोंपर विचरा करते हैं
upariṣṭād asau loko yo 'yaṃ svar iti saṃjñitaḥ | ūrdhvagaḥ satpathaḥ śaśvad devayānacaro mune ||
“Acima deste mundo está o reino chamado Svarga. A ele se chega ascendendo e, por isso, também é chamado ‘Ūrdhvaga’—o que vai para o alto. O caminho que conduz até lá é sempre o satpatha, a ‘boa senda’. Ó sábio, os que ali habitam deslocam-se continuamente em vimānas, fruindo o fruto de seus méritos.”
देवदूत उवाच
The verse frames Svarga as a higher realm attained by an ‘upward’ movement along the satpatha (righteous path), implying that ethical merit and right conduct lead to elevated states of existence and refined enjoyments.
A divine messenger addresses a sage and describes the location and nature of Svarga: it lies far above, is reached by ascent, its route is the noble path, and its inhabitants travel continually in celestial vimānas.
