व्रीहिद्रोणस्प तद्धास्प ददतोन्न॑ महात्मन: । शिष्टं मात्सर्यहीनस्य वर्धतेडतिथिदर्शनात्,ईर्ष्यासे रहित महात्मा मुद्गल एक द्रोण धानसे तैयार किये हुए अन्नमेंसे जब-जब दान करते थे, तब-तब देनेसे बचा हुआ अन्न मुद्गलके द्वारा दूसरे अतिथियोंका दर्शन करनेसे बढ़ जाया करता था
vrīhi-droṇa-spṛtaṁ tad hāspadadato 'nnaṁ mahātmanaḥ | śiṣṭaṁ mātsarya-hīnasya vardhate 'tithi-darśanāt ||
Disse Vyāsa: Quando Mudgala, de grande alma e livre de inveja, continuava a doar o alimento que preparara com um único droṇa de arroz, a porção que restava após cada dádiva voltava a aumentar com a chegada de outro hóspede. O episódio realça o poder ético da hospitalidade e da doação desinteressada: aquilo que é oferecido sem ciúme nem apego torna-se inesgotável pela conduta conforme ao dharma.
