सेनाजीवैश्व कौरव्य तथा विषयवासिभि:
senājīvaiś ca kauravya tathā viṣayavāsibhiḥ
Ó Kauravya, disso depende o sustento do exército e, do mesmo modo, o dos habitantes do reino; por isso deve ser administrado com previdência, para que a política do rei ampare tanto a força guerreira quanto o povo que vive na terra.
कर्ण उवाच
Karna frames a rājadharma principle: a ruler’s decisions must sustain both the military establishment and the ordinary residents of the realm, since the stability of the state rests on the welfare and livelihood of both.
