द्रौपदी-शैब्यसंवादः — Draupadī’s Identification and Counsel on Hospitality
भीष्मद्रोणौ कृपद्रौणी विदुर: संजयस्तथा । बाह्लीकः सौमदत्तिश्न ये चान्ये वृद्धसम्मता:,भीष्म, द्रोण, कृपाचार्य, अश्वत्थामा, विदुर, संजय, बाह्नलीक, भूरिश्रवा तथा अन्य जो वृद्ध पुरुषोंके लिये आदरणीय महानुभाव हैं वे, तथा ब्राह्मण, प्रमुख वैश्यगण और उदासीन वृत्तिवाले लोग मुझसे क्या कहेंगे और मैं उन्हें क्या उत्तर दूँगा?
bhīṣmadroṇau kṛpadrauṇī viduraḥ sañjayastathā | bāhlīkaḥ saumadattiś ca ye cānye vṛddhasammatāḥ ||
Duryodhana disse: “Bhishma e Drona, Kripa e o filho de Drona (Ashvatthama), Vidura e Sanjaya também; Bahlika e o filho de Somadatta (Bhūrishravas), e quaisquer outros anciãos tidos em reverência — que dirão a mim tais homens veneráveis, juntamente com os brâmanes, os vaishyas de destaque e aqueles que mantêm uma postura neutra? E que resposta lhes darei?”
दुर्योधन उवाच
Even a powerful ruler remains answerable to dharma as embodied by elders, teachers, and socially respected groups; fear of their judgment highlights the ethical weight of public and familial accountability.
Duryodhana anticipates scrutiny from revered Kuru elders and influential social groups and worries about what they will say regarding his conduct and what justification he can offer in response.
