Even in hardship and exile, dharma is upheld through reverence to learning and ascetic virtue: the Pāṇḍavas honor Vedic study (svādhyāya) and austerity (tapas) by serving and respecting visiting sages.
During the Pāṇḍavas’ forest residence, venerable Brahmin ascetics and Vedic scholars come to see them, and the Pāṇḍavas receive them properly with service and worshipful respect.
