Duryodhana’s Account of Gandharva Defeat and the Pandavas’ Intervention (दुर्योधनवर्णितो गन्धर्वसंग्रामः)
स चापि भूमौ परिवर्तमानो वर्ध सुतानां मम काड्क्षमाण: । सत्येन धर्मेण च वार्यमाण: काल प्रतीक्षत्यधिको रणे<न्यै:,“रणभूमिमें भीमसेन दूसरोंकी अपेक्षा सदा अधिक पराक्रमी सिद्ध होते हैं। वे मेरे पुत्रोंके वधकी कामना करते हुए धरतीपर करवटें बदल रहे होंगे। सत्य और धर्मने ही उन्हें रोक रखा है; अतः वे भी अवसरकी ही प्रतीक्षा कर रहे हैं
sa cāpi bhūmau parivartamāno vṛddha-sutānāṃ mama kāṅkṣamāṇaḥ | satyena dharmeṇa ca vāryamāṇaḥ kālaṃ pratīkṣaty adhiko raṇe'nyaiḥ ||
E ele também, rolando inquieto pelo chão, ansiando pelo massacre de meus filhos, é contido apenas pela verdade e pelo dharma. Por isso, embora supere os outros na batalha, limita-se a esperar o momento certo.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
Even overwhelming martial power is ethically bounded: truth (satya) and dharma restrain impulsive vengeance, directing action to the proper time and rightful occasion rather than mere desire.
The speaker describes Bhīma as intensely eager for the destruction of the speaker’s sons (the Kauravas), so agitated that he tosses on the ground; yet he does not strike prematurely because adherence to satya and dharma holds him back, and he waits for the opportune moment in the conflict.
