Duryodhana’s Account of Gandharva Defeat and the Pandavas’ Intervention (दुर्योधनवर्णितो गन्धर्वसंग्रामः)
तथा यमौ चाप्यसुखौ सुखाहं समृद्धरूपावमरौ दिवीव । प्रजागरस्थौ ध्रुवमप्रशान्तौ धर्मेण सत्येन च वार्यमाणौ,“इसी प्रकार सुख भोगनेके योग्य नकुल और सहदेवका भी सुख छिन गया है। वे दोनों भाई स्वर्गके देवता अश्विनीकुमारोंकी भाँति रूपवान् हैं। वे भी निश्चय ही अशान्तभावसे सारी रात जागते हुए भूमिपर सोते होंगे। धर्म और सत्य ही उन्हें तत्काल आक्रमण करनेसे रोके हुए हैं
tathā yamau cāpy asukhau sukhāhaṃ samṛddharūpāv amarau divīva | prajāgarasthau dhruvam apraśāntau dharmeṇa satyena ca vāryamāṇau ||
Disse Vaiśaṃpāyana: “Assim também os gêmeos—embora dignos de desfrutar da felicidade—dela foram privados. Radiantes em beleza como os divinos Aśvin do céu, certamente passam a noite inteira acordados, inquietos e sem paz, deitados sobre a terra. Apenas o dharma e a verdade os contêm, impedindo-os de lançar um ataque imediato.”
वैशम्पायन उवाच
Even when one has the power and the provocation to strike, dharma and satya can—and should—act as inner restraints. Moral truthfulness and righteous duty are presented as stronger than immediate anger or retaliation.
Vaiśaṃpāyana describes Nakula and Sahadeva as outwardly splendid like the heavenly Aśvins, yet inwardly tormented and sleepless. Though ready for action, they are held back from an immediate attack by their commitment to dharma and truth.
