Kaurava Court Hears of the Pāṇḍavas’ Forest Hardship (वैचित्रवीर्यवंशीयस्य राज्ञः करुणाविचारः)
समालोक्यैकतामेव शशिनो भास्करस्य च । समवायं तु त॑ रौद्रं दृष्टवा शक्रो5न्वचिन्तयत्,इस प्रकार चन्द्रमा और सूर्यकी एकता (एक राशिपर स्थिति) तथा रौद्र मुहूर्तका संयोग देखकर इन्द्र मन-ही-मन इस प्रकार चिन्तन करने लगे---
samālokyaikatām eva śaśino bhāskarasya ca | samavāyaṃ tu taṃ raudraṃ dṛṣṭvā śakro 'nvacintayat ||
Disse Mārkaṇḍeya: Ao ver que a Lua e o Sol haviam chegado a um único alinhamento, e ao notar a conjunção ominosa do feroz momento (raudra), Indra começou a refletir em seu íntimo—ponderando o que tal sinal poderia prenunciar e qual seria o rumo de ação correto.
मार्कण्डेय उवाच
The verse highlights prudent discernment: when powerful signs appear—especially those suggesting danger or disruption—one should pause, reflect, and choose action aligned with dharma rather than reacting impulsively.
Mārkaṇḍeya narrates that Indra notices an unusual alignment of the Sun and Moon along with an inauspicious ‘raudra’ time-conjunction, and he begins to think privately about its significance and the appropriate response.
