स्कन्दग्रहवर्णनम् (Skanda-graha-varṇanam) — Description and Pacification of the Skanda-afflictions
भूतानामेव सर्वेषां यस्यां रागस्तदाभवत् | रागाद्वागेति यामाहुर्द्धितीयाज्ञिरस: सुता,अंगिरा मुनिकी दूसरी कन्या “रागा' नामसे विख्यात है। उसपर समस्त प्राणियोंका विशेष अनुराग प्रकट हुआ था। इसीलिये उसका ऐसा नाम प्रसिद्ध हुआ। (यह रात्रिकी अभिमानिनी है)
bhūtānām eva sarveṣāṁ yasyāṁ rāgas tadābhavat | rāgād vāg eti yām āhur dvitīyāṅgirasaḥ sutā ||
Markandeya disse: “Nela, de fato, todos os seres sentiram um apego especial. Por causa desse ‘rāga’ (afeição/atração), ela também é chamada ‘Vāk’ (a Palavra, a Fala). Ela foi a segunda filha do sábio Aṅgiras.”
मार्कण्डेय उवाच
The verse links inner attraction (rāga) with the emergence and naming of speech (vāk), suggesting that what beings are drawn toward becomes articulated and gains identity through language.
Mārkaṇḍeya explains a mythic genealogy: the second daughter of the sage Aṅgiras is associated with universal attachment, and on that basis she is identified/known as Vāk (Speech).
