Adhyāya 208: Aṅgirasī-kanyāḥ
Enumeration of Aṅgiras’ daughters and attribute-names
Greed (lobha) is presented as the primary foundation of sinful behavior: when desire to possess dominates, it drives people to form intentions and make firm decisions to do wrong. Ethical restraint is strengthened by śāstric learning and disciplined reflection.
In the Dharma-vyādha episode of the Vana Parva, the hunter instructs a Brahmin seeker on practical dharma. Here he identifies greed as the underlying cause that leads ordinary people—especially the insufficiently instructed—to resolve upon sinful actions.
