Vyādha–Brāhmaṇa Saṃvāda: Śāpa, Vṛtta-Dharma, and Counsel Against Viṣāda
Grief
The verse highlights the immense physical risk and pain women endure in childbirth and the continuing labor of nurturing with affection, implying an ethical duty of gratitude, respect, and protection toward mothers and women within dharma.
Vaiśaṃpāyana reports a reflection framed as a direct address to a revered Brāhmaṇa: the speaker, overwhelmed by doubt, points to the severe ordeal of childbirth and subsequent child-rearing as a morally significant fact that should shape one’s judgment and conduct.
